They've selected quarterbacks first overall in 12 of the past 16 years, throwing in linemen as occasional changeups, for example. A closer look at draft-related trends provides context and some answers to specific questions regarding teams and their leading decision-makers. Will the New York Jets snap their streak of drafting for defense early? Is this the year a Jeff Fisher team finally drafts an offensive lineman in the first round? What about the Detroit Lions' secondary, the Seattle Seahawks' offense and the hard lessons teams have learned from reaching for quarterbacks?
1. Will the Jets snap their streak of five consecutive first-round picks used for defensive players?
