Dotson's breakout year
By Luke Lapinski
One freshman that has flown somewhat under the radar while putting together a very solid season is Oregon's Damyean Dotson. The 6-foot-5 guard landed in Eugene as a three-star recruit in a large 2012 crop headlined by Dominic Artis. He's made his presence felt in a huge way though, leading the Ducks in scoring with 11.4 points per game while hitting his shots at a 46.4 percent clip -- a good number for a guard, and one that would be even better if not for all the 3-pointers he has attempted.
That performance has been crucial for Dana Altman's squad, who still leads the Pac-12 despite playing without Artis for the past six games. Dotson has been a pretty steady contributor throughout the entire season, and is a major reason why Oregon is poised to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008. He's also earned the respect of our own John Gasaway, who ranks him No. 14 nationally among all first-year players.
