How Jorgenson helps Georgia Tech

By Joe Kaiser

Georgia Tech's big commitment on Monday from former Missouri-pledge Travis Jorgenson (Columbia, Mo./New Hampton School) gives the Yellow Jackets a significant boost at point guard heading into next season.

Jorgenson, who was also being pursued by Boston College and Creighton, should allow coach Brian Gregory to utilize Solomon Poole off the ball more in 2013-14. That could suit the former ESPN 100 recruit well. But as Adam Finkelstein of ESPN's Recruiting Nation points out, that's just part of what makes Jorgenson such a valuable addition to the program (assuming he sticks with his verbal commitment).

Jorgenson is the perfect fit for Gregory's offense
"Jorgenson also helps Georgia Tech address two of its top needs for next season. First, he’s a 'pace point guard' -- meaning he creates tempo by pushing the ball with both the pass and the dribble -- and that will help Gregory and his staff get back to playing the up-tempo style that brought them so much success during their time at Dayton. Secondly, Jorgenson has a good understanding of how to play the pick and roll, which has been another consistent staple of Gregory’s offensive style in years past. Jorgenson is not only adept at turning the corner and finding the roll man, but he is also able to spot open teammates replacing up from the baseline or spacing out on the opposite side of the floor."
