Washington eyeing a new type of recruit?
By Joe Kaiser
Over the past decade, Lorenzo Romar has had a knack for recruiting and developing athletes. From Brandon Roy to Nate Robinson to Quincy Pondexter to Isaiah Thomas and, most recently, Tony Wroten and Terrence Ross. And those are just the guys who made it to the NBA. However, UW's shift to a high-post offense this season is expected to change the way Romar recruits.
Percy Allen of the Seattle Times writes today that on Romar's weekly radio show last night, the coach touched on how the high-post offense changes his recruiting approach.
"The old motion offense required athletic players who can create off the dribble," writes Allen, referring to Romar's comments. "The new offense requires more skilled players, who can do a little bit of everything. Romar said the high-post offense is also very accommodating for tweeners, wing players who aren’t necessarily guards or forwards."
If you're a UW fan, this is precisely why landing Aaron Gordon (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) is so important. Not only is Gordon one of the top-rated players in the country and a prep dunker some compare to a young Blake Griffin, he's also an unselfish big man with a high basketball IQ.
