Why Miami deserves a No. 1 seed

By Joe Kaiser

Miami rose to No. 3 in the updated Top 25 on Monday, and our resident Joe Lunardi says that the Hurricanes deserve to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament for reasons that are not overly complicated.

"I think Miami's resume starts and ends with the 27-point beat down of Duke and the 26-point beat down of North Carolina, the latter coming just this past weekend," Lunardi says today in a bracketology video update on ESPN.com.

"I mean, if you're an ACC team and you're an ACC team outside of Tobacco Road, championships are won by going through Durham and by going through Chapel Hill. So the Hurricanes have sent a notice not just within their league , but nationally, that they are going to be a factor for a Sweet 16, Final Four and maybe now even a National Championship. ..."

The Hurricanes' schedule lightens up considerably the rest of the way, but they still must play two tough road games at Florida State and Duke. Right now, though, their chances of being one of the four No. 1 seeds in the big dance looks very strong.
