Crabbe's NBA stock on the rise?

By Joe Kaiser

Cal junior Allen Crabbe had the type of performance against No. 7 Arizona on Sunday that could increase the chances of him opting for the NBA draft after the season.

Crabbe, who is already No. 38 on Chad Ford's Big Board and No. 9 among shooting guards, erupted for 31 points on 12-of-15 shooting to lead the Golden Bears to its biggest win of the season. Being that his latest performance came against a Wildcats squad considered to be among the best in the nation, this is one sure to get the attention of NBA scouts.

Crabbe was 4-for-7 from 3-point range against Arizona, which isn't a big surprise considering that the 3-ball is the best part of his game. But where the 6-foot-6, 210-pounder has improved this season is inside the arc. In fact, his 3-point percentage of 35.8 is the lowest its been in his three years in Berkeley, yet his overall field goal percentage (48.3) is a huge improvement from previous years (44.6 in 2010-11 and 43.1 in 2011-12). Crabbe's also getting to the line much more frequently this season, which is encouraging because that was a weakness coming into the season. He already has attempted 107 free throws this year, after only attempting 92 as a freshman and 89 as a sophomore.

We'll keep you posted when we hear more about Crabbe's draft stock, and whether he's leaning towards going pro or returning for a fourth season at Cal.

Worth a first round look?
"Crabbe, a 6-6 junior, has been lighting up the Pac-12 since his freshman year, but this season is the first time NBA scouts have started to seriously consider him as a potential pro. Blessed with unlimited range and a nose for scoring the basketball, Crabbe has been huge for Cal this season, averaging 19.8 points per game. He had arguably his best game of the season Sunday versus Arizona, scoring 33 points on 12-for-15 shooting against the Wildcats."
