Will Armstead play hoops for Oregon?
By Matt Giles
When Arik Armstead committed to play football at Oregon, there was a chance the big might also suit up for Dana Altman's squad. The 6-foot-7 Armstead was highly regarded on ESPN's recruiting rankings, and since the Ducks would be lacking depth on the interior, the thought was Armstead would see minutes (albeit, potentially limited minutes).
However, Arsalan Kazemi transferred to Oregon right before the season tipped, and Waverly Austin, who was supposed to suit up for South Florida this season, was denied admission to USF and decided to trek to Eugene. Suddenly, Oregon's frontcourt was loaded, and it appeared less likely that Armstead -- who was added to the roster -- would ever see minutes. Per Adam Jude of the Oregonian, Armstead will spend most of his Pac-12 minutes on the football field; Altman recently stated, "Arik's future is in football, and he knows that. He could be a very good basketball player if they let me have him for awhile."
