Shabazz Muhammad's latest health concern
By Joe Kaiser
Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that a bout with the flu has caused UCLA freshman Shabazz Muhammad to lose 10 pounds.
Muhammad didn't practice on Tuesday, according to Foster, and the bigger concern now is getting him to eat the right things.
"The trainer told him last night to make sure he went out and make sure you eat a good meal,” Bruins coach Ben Howland told the newspaper. “He went out and had sushi. I don’t know if sushi is filling enough for him. He said he ate a lot of it.
"We’re now being very specific to what he has to eat to make sure he is getting enough nutrition."
UCLA is down to eight scholarship players and is mostly using a seven-man rotation, and it will certainly need Muhammad's scoring punch in Thursday's home game against Washington. Muhammad leads the Bruins in scoring at 18.4 points per game, and is expected to be a top five pick in the 2013 NBA draft. If he can't play, expect fellow freshman Jordan Adams to become the focal point of the Bruins' offense against the Huskies.
