Significance of Nerlens Noel's night
By Joe Kaiser
New Orleans is hosting the Super Bowl this week, and Nerlens is throwing the block party.
's 12-block effort against Ole Miss on Tuesday has the nation abuzz and put the Kentucky freshman in rarefied air.
Not only did it set the school record (Sam Bowie and Andre Riddick had the old mark of 9, per ESPN Stats & Info), it
gave him more blocks (94) than Anthony Davis had at this point last season
As noted by Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports, Noel
now has six games in a row with at least six blocks
and in doing so has taken over as the country's
leading shot blocker
While the NBA draft is still nearly six months away, one has to believe that night's performance elevated Noel to the top of many draft boards (if he wasn't there already) ... at least for the time being.
