Kevin Ware's future at Louisville

By Joe Kaiser

Louisville sophomore Kevin Ware was suspended for undisclosed reasons and missed Monday's game against Pitt, but the bigger question is when -- and if -- he'll return to the Cardinals.

The athletic reserve guard is playing just under 16 minutes a game this season, eighth most on the team, but after the win over the Panthers last night Cardinals coach Rick Pitino didn't sound very optimistic about Ware returning in the near future. According to Mike Rutherford of CardChronicle.com, Pitino said during his postgame radio interview with Bob Valvano that Ware is "not coming back anytime soon."

So what's all this mean? It's hard to say without knowing what Ware did, but this much we do know: the former ESPN 100 recruit's future at the school doesn't look very bright. Looking at next year's roster, the Cardinals have Russ Smith and Luke Hancock returning as seniors, Wayne Blackshear as a junior and a talented group of three newcomers -- PG Terry Rozier, SG Anton Gill and JUCO PG Chris Jones. That's six guys right there who could be ahead of Ware in the rotation, even if he gets out of Pitino's doghouse.
