Future star at Eastern Washington?

By Joe Kaiser

There haven't been many stars to play at Eastern Washington over the years -- Rodney Stuckey is the school's only NBA draft pick -- but the Eagles look to have one in Australian freshman Venky Jois.

Will the 6-foot-7 forward follow Stuckey's path to the NBA? Probably not. But there's no denying what he's done at EWU as a first-year player. On Monday, Jois went for 20 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Portland State in the type of performance the Eagles have come to expect out of him this season.

Jeremy Lundblad of ESPN Stats & Information adds further perspective:
"One of the most impressive freshman seasons has quietly been happening in Cheney, Wash. Jois leads all freshmen with nine double-doubles, the most recent occurring on Monday. He finished with 20 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks in Eastern Washington’s 76-65 win over Portland State. Only All-America candidates Jamaal Franklin and Mike Muscala have done that in a game this season."

Quite the recruiting find for Eagles' second-year head coach Jim Hayford!
