Shannon brings versatility to VCU
By Nic Reiner
Florida State transfer Terrance Shannon has landed at VCU and will be eligible to play immediately, per CBSSports.com's Jeff Goodman yesterday. The Shannon pickup stands to be a big one for Shaka Smart's squad because the 6-foot-8 forward will deepen the frontcourt while helping open up space for teammates on the outside.
The Rams return three starters -- guard Rob Brandenberg, forward Juvonte Reddic, and guard Treveon Graham -- from an NCAA tournament team that finished ranked No. 16 at KenPom.com, placing in the top 20 nationwide in offensive efficiency. Briante Weber, another key guard in the rotation, returns as well.
With Shannon in tow, the 6-foot-5 Graham could see more action on the wing. CBS's Jon Rothstein argues VCU will have a lineup not dissimilar from the one that went to the Final Four in 2011, in its ability to adjust in size.
Shannon has struggled with injuries throughout his career but the hope is that he can be a seasoned contributing factor immediately. VCU should be in a strong position to win the revamped Atlantic 10.
