Miami in mix for two high-profile transfers
By Nic Reiner
Miami has already landed transfer Angel Rodriguez, a big pickup who can be an immediate starter at point guard in 2013 because of a likely eligibility waiver. Rodriguez isn't the only transfer coach Jim Larranaga is targeting. According to Michael Casagrande of the Sun-Sentinel, the Hurricanes are also going after Alabama guard Trevor Lacey and Texas guard Sheldon McClellan, both of whom played significant roles at their former schools.
We wrote earlier this week that Lacey, a rising junior, has narrowed down his list to North Carolina State, North Carolina, and Miami.
Lacey is visiting NC State as of this writing and says he'll head to UNC on May 14th and to Miami on May 23rd. He's laid out stylistic fit, comfort with the coaching, and a vibrant fanbase as factors in his decision.
McClellan's been quiet but he told CBSSports.com last month that he had reduced his list of possible destinations to Marquette, Oregon, Illinois, Miami, and Fresno State.
Both Lacey and McClellan would be eligible to play for the 'Canes in 2014-15. Either one would be an impactful get for Larranaga's program as both have already shown they can be major factors in an offense.
