Where could Okafor and Jones team up?
By Nic Reiner
Jahlil Okafor (Chicago/Whitney Young), the No. 1 ranked prospect in the class of 2014, and Tyus Jones (Apple Valley, Minn/Apple Valley), the No. 2 ranked player in the class of 2014, have said in the past they would like to play together in college. As the spring signing period opens, the pace is picking up now in their recruitment process. The 6-foot-11 Okafor will be hosting in-home visits next week that include Baylor, Duke, Kansas and Michigan State. The Okafor household has already hosted Ohio State.
Jones recently released a list of finalists that included Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State.
Though the home visits are important, they won't lend a significant amount of insight at the moment unless something drastic happens. The ones Okafor are hosting next week are all on Jones's final list so none of these schools will be eliminated from contention. Obviously, the schools listed above are not the only schools interested in Okafor. One might conjecture these are the schools most interested in the big man but, if we operate under the assumption that Okafor will play with Jones, then Kentucky is still squarely in contention. Arizona and North Carolina are not necessarily out of the question either, though these schools are no longer on Jones's list.
Okafor has not put out a list of finalists yet but hopes to do soon.
