Huggins' motivational tactics
By Joe Kaiser
To be sure, the NCAA tournament is never far from the minds of those who play under Bob Huggins at West Virginia. That's true again this season, even as the Mountaineers (8-7, 1-2 Big 12) struggle to find wins on their schedule and don't look much like a team that will be on your bracket come March.
Scott Grayson of WVIllustrated.com reports that Huggins always keeps his team informed of where it stands in relation to the Big Dance throughout the season.
"Every time we go in for film, he has the next three teams we play," freshman guard Eron Harris tells the website. "He has their RPI, he has their rank in the nation and he is saying how big the game is in terms of making it into the tournament."
Anyone who plays for coach Huggins has to be able to handle playing in big games, and playing under pressure, but we have to wonder if this approach could be affecting the way the Mountaineers are playing this season. Then again, this is more than likely exactly the same thing Huggins has always done throughout his successful coaching career.
