C.J. Wilcox's early entry chances

By Joe Kaiser

As Washington fans are forced to look ahead to next season much earlier than they are used to, one of the big questions for 2013-14 is whether C.J. Wilcox will return for a fifth year of school.

Obviously, the Huskies would love to have him back -- he's their leading scorer at 19.1 points a game and top 3-point threat. In fact, the 6-foot-5 Wilcox has shot 40 percent or better from 3-point range in each of his three seasons in Seattle.

According to ESPN's Chad Ford, Wilcox is starting to generate more buzz as far as the 2013 NBA draft is concerned, and that is reflected by his move all the way up to No. 36 on the Big Board.

Here's more from Ford on whether Wilcox has a chance to leave school early for the NBA after the season.

Chad Ford
Wilcox needs a strong finish to the season
"In the past two weeks, I've had no fewer than five NBA scouts and a couple of GMs e-mail, text or call me asking why Wilcox wasn't higher on our Top 100. He's having a terrific season at Washington, averaging 19.1 points per game and shooting nearly 42 percent from 3-point land. He's got decent size (6-foot-5, 195 pounds) for his position, is an excellent athlete and has improved every year at Washington. Before Saturday's meltdown versus Utah, he had led Washington to a surprising 4-0 start in the Pac-12. For a team looking for an athletic 2 who can really stroke the basketball, he's a nice option. If Wilcox has a weakness right now it's his age. He just turned 22 years old, which is one-to-two years older than most of the players in his class. NBA teams tend to factor age significantly into their draft analysis. The older a player, the more teams tend to pin his success on maturity over basketball acumen. We've moved Wilcox up considerably the past few weeks and he now sits at No. 36 in our Top 100. A strong finish to the season could nail him down a spot in the first round."
