Why Michigan's an elite team
By Joe Kaiser
There are a number of reasons why Michigan is one of the top teams in the land this season, and some are more apparent than others.
Maize n Brew's Zach Travis writes today in the Detriot Free Press that having the nation's most efficient offense is one of the biggest factors in Michigan's rise, but there are three other areas in particular where UM is helping itself.
Rebounding -- In particular, preventing opponents from getting offensive boards: Only Colorado State and Penn State are better in this area.
Limiting turnovers -- UM turns it over only 15.1 percent of the time, the second best turnover percentage in the nation.
Preventing free throw opportunities -- While the Wolverines aren't exactly shooting a ton of free throws themselves, they are absolutely great at limiting their opponents' chances at the charity stripe. In fact, they are second in the country in opponents' FT attempts/FG attempts ratio.
