Will No. 1 be a revolving door?

By Joe Kaiser

Who will be the new No. 1 school when the updated rankings come out today? Basketball Prospectus' John Gasaway wrote over at ESPN Insider this weekend that Florida is deserving of the honor, thanks in large part to its improved offense inside the 3-point arc and its suffocating defense.

But, as ESPN's Andy Katz points out today, the Gators are hardly the only team that could take over the top spot when all is said and done this season. In fact, there could very well be a revolving door at No. 1 between now and March.

Here's Katz with more on what other teams could be in the mix.

Nine schools are vying for the top spot

"The No. 1 debate will rage on for weeks since I fully expect a changing of the guard at the top over the next two months. I was most impressed with Michigan this past week and went with the Wolverines. But I wouldn't be against Kansas or Syracuse in the spot when the polls come out Monday. The better question will be how many teams are realistically vying for No. 1 seeds. My inner Joe Lunardi tells me that you could see this race include Michigan, Kansas, Syracuse, Duke, Louisville, Indiana, Arizona, Florida and Gonzaga. I won't be surprised at all if eight of those nine are on the top two lines in March."
