Why Gordon is in high demand

By Luke Lapinski

Three schools remain in the race for one of high school basketball's top prospects. Aaron Gordon (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) is ranked No. 7 on the ESPN 100, No. 3 among uncommitted players. Washington, Arizona and Kentucky are vying for his services, and there appears to be no set timetable for a decision. Each program has plenty to offer the youngster, as UW is close to home, U of A could slide him right into a significant role with seniors like Solomon Hill and Kevin Parrom on their way out and UK has built its reputation of late on getting players like Gordon a shot at a National Championship and a quick path to the NBA.

So what exactly makes the 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward so good? Our own Paul Biancardi answered that question, noting Gordon's tenacity, versatility and physical skill set as key components to his success. Biancardi also likes his impressive athleticism, winning mentality, strong rebounding skills and general consistency on the floor. Any club could use a guy like that -- especially the Huskies, who had no new recruits join the program this fall, have to deal with Aziz N'Diaye leaving after this year and have no frontcourt prospects lined up in next year's class just yet. Sean Miller's group would love to plug him in with those seniors leaving and, if John Calipari lands him in Lexington, the Wildcats' historically strong class will reach even more ridiculous heights with a fifth five-star recruit.

Getting the job done
"Gordon’s success is tied to his diligent approach, as he is serious about the game and winning. After breaking a bone in his foot early this past summer, he came back with a vengeance at the Nike Peach Jam and led the Oakland Soldiers to the Nike EYBL championship. He went for a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds in the title game win over CIA Bounce and Andrew Wiggins. Gordon is also looking to lead Archbishop Mitty to its third consecutive state title this season. "
