Texas front-runner for 2013 guard Croaker

By Nic Reiner

UPDATE: Three-star 2013 guard Demarcus Croaker (Orlando, Fla./Jones) is officially down to Texas and Murray State. He decommitted from Murray last month and Texas seemed to be the biggest beneficiary of that decision. By his own admission now, the Longhorns are clearly in the lead.

The momentum that's been accumulating since late February seems to be real and his visit in early March went well. In the story at the link above, Croaker spoke heavily about the youth in Rick Barnes' program being attractive. His focus is on chemistry and development and he intimated that UT provides both opportunities. Texas is in line for a true last minute steal, which would be a late bright spot for the program as it completes its middling 2013 season.

Texas received some excellent news this week when three-star 2013 guard Demarcus Croaker (Orlando, Fla./Jones) decommitted from Murray State. Rick Barnes now has a chance to bolster a 2013 class that at the moment includes only one other guard, three-star Isaiah Taylor (Houston/The Village School).

The Longhorns have had a disappointing season thus far on the court and have been unable to make much noise on the recruiting trail. Landing Croaker, however, could unexpectedly change that. The 6-foot-4, 182 point guard told our Reggie Rankin he "felt like he put I put all my eggs in one basket, took one visit and committed." He intends to visit Austin this weekend. Here's Rankin with more on what the decommitment means for the Longhorns.

Reggie Rankin
Croaker could be big get for Texas
"Croaker is averaging about 27 points per game during his senior campaign. He is very athletic and excels in transition in addition to his ability to score on the interior off the dribble. Croaker also has a knack for getting to the rim and burying the open trey. If the Longhorns play their cards right this weekend, Rick Barnes and Co. will have an excellent shot of landing one of the most prolific scoring guards left on the board."
