Bennett's status
By Luke Lapinski
UNLV's strong play of late has shot the program back up into the No. 3 spot in the Mountain West. And the continued success of freshman sensation Anthony Bennett has played a key role. Which is why Rebels fans everywhere were holding their breath when he was only able to play four minutes against Wyoming this past Saturday because of a shoulder injury.
As it turns out, Dave Rice's squad appears to have avoided disaster here. The injury -- apparently sustained when Bennett slept on it the wrong way -- isn't expected to be much of an issue going forward. A break in the schedule may have come at just the right time, giving UNLV seven days off before a meeting with Nevada this upcoming Saturday. Rice says the big man should be close to 100 percent by then, which is obviously great news for the Rebels. In 28 games this season, Bennett has broken the 20-point barrier 12 times, leads the team in scoring and rebounding and has cemented himself among the top players on Chad Ford's big board heading into this summer's NBA draft.
