How Big Ten award affects Dekker
By Joe Kaiser
Wisconsin's Sam Dekker was named the Big Ten Conference's Freshman of the Week after a big performance in the Badgers convincing 74-51 win over Illinois last weekend. And for a player who is often hard on himself and still trying to prove that he belongs, such an honor could be a big deal.
"Just another confidence booster," Dekker said of the award in Tuesday's Sheboygan Press. "It makes the hoop look a little bigger. You kind of just feel like things are going your way again. As a player, confidence is so much, and when you get on a roll like that and get a good shooting night, as a team as a whole that's going to be contagious."
Going forward, it'll be important for the freshman to build on this. One area that he still has to prove is an ability to get to the free throw line -- he hasn't yet done so in league play.
