Bama in contention for backcourt help?
By Luke Lapinski
Alabama added just one recruit in the 2012 class, bringing in ESPN 100 talent Devonta Pollard. The Crimson Tide's 2013 haul is already bigger though, with Jimmie Taylor and Shannon Hale -- both ESPN 100 prospects as well -- set to make their way to Tuscaloosa next year.
That gives Anthony Grant some top-end frontcourt weapons to work with, and has 'Bama's 2013 crop ranked No. 34 in the nation. It also leaves the Tide lacking a little in terms of incoming perimeter talent though. Which is where Jon Severe (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) comes into play. Recruiting Nation describes the shooting guard as "one of the top young swingmen in the New York City area" -- a skilled offensive player with upside who can make things happen by attacking the rim or knocking down his shots.
That could make him a nice fit for Alabama and, according to Adam Zagoria, Severe will be visiting the SEC school Feb. 25-26. Grant's program isn't the only one vying for his services though, as Purdue, Tennessee, Rutgers and West Virginia -- among others -- are all showing interest as well.
