A big concern for Colorado
By Joe Kaiser
Colorado was one of the biggest NCAA tournament snubs in 2011 and needed to win the Pac-12 tournament last season to earn a spot in the Big Dance. Will they be dancing again this March? Joe Lunardi writes today that the Buffaloes still have work to do, and right now one key factor should have CU worried.
That factor is the inside presence of ESPN 100 freshman big man Josh Scott, whose production has tailed off considerably in recent weeks.
Jeff Borzello notes in his latest Freshman of the Year column that Scott has scored more than seven points just once in the past six games, including a 0-point performance in a critical overtime loss to Arizona State last weekend. Scott's ability to score close to the basket with his fundamentally sound, below-the-rim style is essential for Tad Boyle's team to be successful, and the Buffs will need more from him down the stretch with big games remaining against Oregon, Cal and Stanford.
When Scott isn't scoring, that puts more pressure on Andre Roberson to do so, and Roberson -- though talented enough to be considered a NBA prospect -- isn't very good at creating his own offense.
