Suspension coming for Tony Woods?

By Joe Kaiser

UPDATE: Bob Clark of The Register-Guard writes that the Pac-12 determined Monday that no further disciplinary action will be taken for Tony Woods's elbow to the head of Washington State's Brock Motum.

This is a big break for Oregon, which faces a Cal team this week that dominated inside the paint in the first meeting of the season. Clark points out that Richard Solomon had 13 points and 13 rebounds in that game, and David Kravish added 8 and 8. At the very least, Woods' 6-foot-11, 243-pound frame can serve as a space-eater that the Ducks otherwise wouldn't have had in the rematch.

Oregon's senior center Tony Woods was ejected from the game against Washington State over the weekend, and it could prove to be costly for Dana Altman's program.

The Ducks currently are alone atop the Pac-12 standings and have an advantageous remaining schedule, which should give them an inside track at the regular season conference title. But if Woods is suspended after throwing an elbow against a defenseless Brock Motum on Saturday, a senseless move that forced Motum out of the game, the Ducks could conceivably have to play without their starting center with big home games against surging Cal and Stanford this week.

Woods is averaging 9.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1 block a game as a fifth-year senior, and if he is suspended Altman will probably move either Carlos Emory or Waverly Austin into the starting five. We'll keep you updated on this story with Woods, because it could have a big impact on the way the rest of the Pac-12 schedule plays out.

Here's Andy Katz with more.

This is already Woods' second chance
"If I'm Oregon head coach Dana Altman, Tony Woods' elbow to the back of Brock Motum's head would have me concerned. The Ducks gave Woods a second chance after he was pushed out at Wake Forest. Woods should be on his best behavior."
