We've been following where guard Ahmad Starks, rising senior guard and Oregon State transfer, might land. The two schools he is most heavily considering are Illinois and Bradley. Illinois' chances at getting Starks presumably went up today with the news that current sophomore Illini forward Myke Henry requested his release from the program and has decided to transfer.

South Dakota State announced former Florida PF Cody Larson will be transferring into the program and will be eligible in 2014-15 after sitting out next year. Larson's college career has been filled with tumult. After redshirting his freshman year in Gainesville in 2010-11, the 6-foot-9 Larson ran into legal trouble during the 2011 offseason. After he was reinstated and played the 2011-12 year, he lost his scholarship and left the team before the start of the 2012-13 season to focus on academics and fixing off-court problems. Now he will join SDSU, which is just 45 miles from where he grew up.

2014 point guard Josh Perkins (Denver, Co./Regis Jesuit) received an offer from UCLA just under two weeks ago and will be officially visiting Westwood next weekend. Perkins, ranked No. 41 in the Class of 2014, will then visit Gonzaga the following weekend. Given the schedule and proximity of offer to visit, one has to think UCLA has the upper hand in Perkins' recruitment right now.

Who needs Barton the most?

May, 23, 2013

As we noted earlier in the week, Memphis transfer Antonio Barton plans on announcing where he'll play his senior season of college ball on Sunday. He'll be eligible to suit up right away wherever he goes, and each of his four finalists could use him pretty badly at this point.
Maryland, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Kansas State are the schools Barton is considering, and each will be able to offer him playing time right away. The Terrapins need someone to replace Pe'Shon Howard, who transferred away when his junior season wrapped up. If they get Barton, they can slide Seth Allen over to his more natural position and slowly work potential freshman phenom Roddy Peters into the mix at a less frantic pace.

Meanwhile, the Volunteers are generating some buzz as a team on the rise in the SEC for next season. But the absence of Trae Golden leaves them without a point guard to run the show. Considering the value of that position, that's a pretty important piece to be missing. The Aggies have the Glenn Cyprien connection working in their favor, and could obviously use another perimeter weapon to step in. They're hot on the trail of 2014 recruit Alex Robinson but, even if he does choose to play basketball in College Station down the line, they'll still need someone for next season.

Much like Tennessee, the Wildcats are in need of an experienced player to run the show after Angel Rodriguez took off for Miami earlier in the offseason. That was a great pickup for the Hurricanes, who were in a similar situation with Shane Larkin jumping to the NBA. But it left KSU with a considerable void in the backcourt.

Olynyk's upside

At the moment, our own Chad Ford has Kelly Olynyk ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect on his big board. And he projects him to slip a little to the Indiana Pacers at No. 23 in his latest mock. Given what that club has been able to do in these playoffs -- including a thrilling overtime contest with LeBron and Miami last night -- that wouldn't be a bad place for a young player like Olynyk to land. Is it possible he might be worth a higher pick though?

At the start of the 2012-13 college season, Cody Zeller seemed well on his way to being a top three pick in this summer's NBA draft. In fact, many experts believed he might even go No. 1 overall. That feeling has changed considerably though, and now the big man out of Indiana is fighting just to stay in the lottery.

Vanderbilt basketball added somebody today that could significantly alter the path of the program in the future. It wasn't a high-impact recruit or a transfer this time, though. We've written before how 2014 PG Chris Chiozza's (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) commitment to Florida impacts other players in the 2014 class, most specifically 2014 No. 11 Leron Black (Memphis, Tenn./White Station). It appears, though, that the Chiozza commitment also affects Florida's chances at landing another 2014 point guard, four-star Brandone Francis (Jacksonville, Fla./Arlington Country day).

UConn big man Enosch Wolf's suspension from the basketball program has been lifted and it's still unclear exactly what his role will be with the team in 2013-14. The reason the future is cloudy is because the Huskies now have zero scholarships available with the news of fifth-year guard Lasan Kromah's transfer from George Washington.
