USA TODAY SportsKasey Hill and Dakari Johnson, productive as freshmen, should be key contributors next season. This wouldn’t have even been debatable a couple of seasons ago after John Calipari’s dynamic freshmen duo of Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist clipped down the nets in New Orleans, proving that a group of freshmen could, in fact, win a national championship.
But times have changed. Which program, as the two teams prepare to play Saturday in Gainesville, is poised for more success going forward: Kentucky or Florida?
The stance has altered on Calipari’s program and his affinity for choosing talent over experience. The Wildcats played in the NIT last season (and lost to Robert Morris), and this season they have hardly looked like a team that can challenge for another national title. Kentucky’s newest youngsters have struggled through the 2013-14 campaign.
So the answer to my aforementioned question is a group led by veterans who have dominated the SEC and risen to No. 1 in the country.
Billy Donovan’s Florida Gators.
