Teams in need of big recruiting classes

The all-important July recruiting period begins Wednesday. It’s broken up into three separate weekends in which coaches are allowed to go out on the road from Wednesday night until Sunday.

Most of the coaches will be smiling, relaxed in the offseason. Guys like Roy Williams, Rick Pitino and Thad Matta will be even more relaxed than most, because each already has three verbal commitments from the Class of 2014 in the books.

However, there are those who may appear somewhat nervous heading into July.

Here are 10 programs with work to do this summer on the recruiting trail:

1. Michigan State Spartans
The Spartans will lose Adreian Payne and Keith Appling, likely will lose Gary Harris and could even lose Branden Dawson. That means Tom Izzo and his staff need to land a stellar class -- likely four players.
