TCU's top options to start at LB
By Brent Sobleski
TCU spent most of last spring practice and fall camp trying to find a starting linebacker next to senior leader Kenny Cain. The Horned Frogs are now trying to replace Cain. Three juniors are attempting to replace TCU's defensive leader.
"Leading the pack to take Cain’s spot as the position group’s leader is junior Marcus Mallet," Travis L. Brown of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram wrote.
Mallett can't get completely comfortable atop the depth chart. Jonathan Anderson and Paul Dawson have impressed the coaching staff. Anderson, in particular, may find himself on the field in defensive sub-packages if he can't beat Mallett for the starting position.
“(Anderson) gives us an advantage of a guy who runs 4.4, who covers vertical people,” TCU head coach Gary Patterson told Brown. “He’s the first guy we’ve had like that since Daryl Washington.”
