Iowa may use the pistol offense

By Brent Sobleski

Iowa's offense sputtered under first year offensive coordinator Greg Davis. The Hawkeyes finished 114th in total offense. The team may implement a new facet into the offense to make it more unpredictable.

"You may have heard of the pistol offense," Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette wrote. "It’s what’s made Colin Kaepernick, RGIII and, to a lesser extent, Russell Wilson the flavor of the day in the NFL. Iowa wants some mobility out of its QB, but will the Hawkeyes ever get to a place where they need the Colin RGIII Wilson at QB? Probably not."

Iowa certainly won't turn to the pistol as a core element of its offense, but Davis could sprinkle it in with new quarterback Jake Rudock to keep defenses on their heels. The Hawkeyes certainly need a different approach to improve one of the worst offense in college football last season.
