Should the Jets consider Moore?

For any team considering an upgrade at the QB position this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles' re-structuring of Michael Vick's contract likely took one of their options off the table. The best likely available veteran options, then, consist of Alex Smith and Matt Flynn (who will need to be pried from their current teams via trade) and FA Matt Moore, who served as understudy to Ryan Tannehill in Miami in 2012.
The New York Jets are different than other NFL teams in a lot of ways, but one of their unique attributes this offseason is a bad salary cap situation partially caused by incumbent starter Mark Sanchez. Sanchez's ineffectiveness, combined with a contract that produces at least an $8 million cap hit regardless of whether they cut him or not, will limit what they can do at the position for 2013. So should they sign Moore, who may come significantly cheaper than the others? ESPN AFC East blogger James Walker thinks it's a fine idea for them to consider:

The team is already more than $19 million over the cap, and New York has to make enough cuts to provide money for its draft class and a few affordable free agents. Moore is the kind of cheap free agent who could provide the Jets some bang for their buck. Moore was Ryan Tannehill’s backup in Miami all last season but is looking for a chance to compete. That opportunity would be in New York against the struggling Mark Sanchez. Jets fans want Alex Smith, but need to realize they don’t have that kind of cap room. I think a trade for Seattle's Matt Flynn would be the best option. But if nothing happens in the trade market, a cheap signing like Moore would not be a bad option. "
