Three-star DE could play early for Purdue
By Brent Sobleski
Purdue doesn't have to rush any of its six recent defensive line signees into the lineup. The Boilermakers are young enough along their defensive front to redshirt most of them if need be. But one particular recruit may force his way unto the field.
Jake Replogle (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) wasn't one of Purdue's top recruits. He was another three-star buried within the recruiting class. And, yet, Purdue defensive coordinator Greg Hudson thinks he could play very early in his career.
"In the day of 85 scholarships, the toughest spot is down in those foxholes, and these young guys who already have the size and the coaching have a chance to play early," Hudson told Kyle Charters of GoldandBlack.com. "This young man has that ability and motor."
There will be an opportunity for a young player like Replogle to provide depth behind Ryan Russell and Greg Latta. Expectations within the Boilermakers' staff are for him to do so.
