Boise State's plans at RB
By Brent Sobleski
Jay Ajayi is the present and future at running back for Boise State after Broncos enjoyed years of production from Doug Martin followed by D.J. Harper. The depth at the position now needs to be developed behind Ajayi, and two backs from this year's class could have an immediate impact for the Broncos.
JUCO recruit Derrick Thomas (Dothan, Ala./Butler Community College) is expected to be an immediate contributor on and off the field.
"...He’s going to push the whole group with all the young guys I have.” Boise State head coach Chris Petersen told Chadd Cripe of the Ideaho Statesman. "Thomas is a rock-solid, physical runner. He fits nicely into that puzzle. He’s in a different class (junior) and he’s a little bit different style than we have.”
Fellow tailback Aaron Baltazar (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake) was Boise State's top rated signee according to ESPN RecruitingNation. Petersen told Cripe that Baltazar has similar potential to Martin. But it may not be enough to get him on the field early.
Jack Fields and Devan Demas were signed in last year's class and expect expanded roles this fall.
