Miami's impact recruit along the D-line
By Brent Sobleski
Miami wants to apply more pressure on the quarterback this season. The Hurricanes finished 113th in the nation with only 13 sacks last season. An incoming recruit could help make the difference Miami needs to consistently create pressure.
"We see (Devante) Bond helping out tremendously getting after the quarterback while blitzing from his linebacker spot -- look for him to be on the line quite a bit as well," CaneSport.com wrote. "A JUCO standout, he is college-ready and should make a big impact right away on a defense that sorely needs a player with his ability level ... assuming he makes it into UM academically (he's still working to get through)."
Miami hedged its bets concerning Bond's eligibility by recently receiving a commitment from Wisconsin transfer David Gilbert. The team's leading sack artist, Anthony Chickillo, also returns this season. The combination of Chickillo, Gilbert, Bond and Al-Quadin Muhammad -- the nation's No. 7 defensive end recruit -- should provide the shot in the arm Miami needed to get to the quarterback.
