The Cincinnati Reds lost another close game Wednesday, as San Francisco Giants right-hander Ryan Vogelsong -- not exactly Roger Clemens -- registered a career-best nine strikeouts in a 3-2 win, and they’re now closer to last place in the NL Central than first. Cincy’s problem is pretty obvious; the Reds were last in baseball in runs scored for May, and it’s tough to see this offense reaching its potential without a healthy Joey Votto taking his many walks and hitting the occasional homer as the lineup centerpiece.
Thus, it couldn’t have been pleasant for Reds fans and Votto's fantasy owners to hear or read Reds GM Walt Jocketty declare Wednesday that Votto might not be 100 percent the rest of this season, as the star aims to recover from what was termed a left quad strain above the knee. It's not often a member of team management is, well, honest. There's likely more to the story.
