Bits: Jason Giambi blasts three homers

May, 20, 2011

Colorado Rockies first baseman Jason Giambi homered three times and knocked in seven runs in Philadelphia on Thursday, the first three-homer game in his long career. Don't feel badly for not owning Giambi; the reserve was hitless in his past 18 at-bats since April 10. Even if Todd Helton can't stay healthy, Giambi is not a fantasy option. Just call it a really nice game and move on.

A more reasonable fantasy option is Minnesota Twins shortstop Trevor Plouffe, who smacked a three-run home run Thursday, and has six RBIs in two days. Plouffe is hitting .286 in 35 at-bats with the Twins since his promotion, and he did hit for modest power -- for a middle infielder -- in the minors. Those in deep leagues should take a look.
