Bits: Ben Sheets makes triumphant return

July, 16, 2012

Atlanta Braves right-hander Ben Sheets made his season debut Sunday with six shutout innings of two-hit ball. Sheets, who last pitched in the majors in mid-2010, walked one and fanned five. It's premature to add Sheets in standard leagues, but then again, his upcoming scheduled opponents appear don't appear scary (Nationals, Marlins twice, Astros).

Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes homered and knocked in three runs Sunday, the second consecutive day he did so. Cespedes had eight hits at Target Field this weekend, getting back on track after being one of ESPN's most-dropped players for the past week. Cespedes is streaky and durability might be an issue, but the man clearly has power. He's worth owning in all leagues.
