Box Score Bits: Volquez struggles

July, 23, 2010

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Edinson Volquez suffered a rough outing Thursday, giving up five hits, four walks and six runs while retiring only seven Washington Nationals. It was Volquez's second start since coming off Tommy John surgery. ESPN's most-added player should improve against the Brewers next week.

Volquez lost to Livan Hernandez, who is owned in half the leagues yet continues to pitch well enough for attention. Hernandez went the distance Thursday, allowing seven hits and one run. It was his first win in a month, but with a 3.12 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, he certainly hasn't fallen apart since his fine start to 2010.
