According to a source, the Oklahoma State Cowboys will sign Detrick Mostella (Decatur, Ala./La Lumiere on Monday.
Mostella, the No. 83 player in the ESPN 100, did not visit the Cowboys but was heavily sought after by OSU head coach Travis Ford. “Detrick really liked him and took to him,” the source said.
There are moving parts to this pledge. Mostella will sign his national letter of intent on Monday but that’s only the first step. Mostella still has to focus on his academics. Making the decision early will allow him to focus on his grades and give him the best chance to make it academically.
Oklahoma State has been in the point guard market this month. It lost a pledge from combo guard Chad Frazier and pushed up hard on Stephen Clark (Oklahoma City, Okla./Douglas). However, Douglas did not sign during the first half of the early signing period. Reportedly, Baylor is a strong factor and Clark told ESPN he would sign in the spring.
Mostella’s a talented scoring guard. He spent the summer on the travel circuit attacking the rim and working on his jump shot. He showed improvements throughout the summer and emerged one of the top guards at the Reebok Breakout Challenge.
When Mostella signs on Monday, he’ll be the Cowboys third addition this year and first member of the ESPN 100.
