Weekend visitors from around the country

9/28/2012

Thursday was a big night for Washington football, thanks to the Huskies' upset of Stanford. This weekend could be equally big for UW on the hardwood if things go well with some high-profile on-campus visits.

Lorenzo Romar has been waiting a long time to get No. 6 overall prospect Aaron Gordon (San Jose, Calif./Bishop Mitty) on campus at Washington, and this weekend is finally his chance.

Editor's note: There’s no guarantee all these guys make it to campus. We will update as information emerges on players who drop off these lists or are added. Also, this is merely a snapshot of the country, not the full representation of each program.

Arizona

Visitor: ESPN 60 SF Justin Jackson

The Wildcats love dipping into Texas, which they view as an extension of their home-state recruiting.

Army

Visitors: Rob Pollack, Luke Morrison, Kyle Smith, Jay Duncan

Zach Spiker’s charges have a quartet on hand for the weekend.

California

Visitor: Elston Jones

The Golden Bears host Jones and have a keen eye on what’s going on at Washington this weekend.

Central Florida

Visitors: ESPN 60 SG D'Angelo Russell, Steve Haney, Justin Bibbs, ESPN 60 C Dakari Johnson

Getting Russell and Johnson, a pair of elite juniors, on campus is big news for the future Big East program. Even at a school with 60,000 students they'll be easy to spot.

Colorado

Visitor: SF Tre’Shaun Lexing

Lexing is going through the process and the Buffaloes are the latest in a series of trips.

Dayton

Visitor: SF Kendall Pollard

Archie Miller is a tough guy and so is Pollard. We’ll see if they can find common ground.

DePaul

Visitor: PF Torren Jones

With every big man pledge, Jones’ stock moves up a notch.

East Carolina

Visitors: PF Brandan Smith, SF Gary Clark, PF Logan McClane, Stavian Allen

Smith is on board and Clark is a junior who’s gaining steam in central Carolina.

Illinois

Visitors: PF Austin Colbert, PF Michael Finke

The Illini have Finke, a local big, on campus and wouldn’t mind pairing him with Colbert.

Iowa

Visitors: SG Trevon Bluiett, PF Ryan Fazekus

The Hawkeyes have been among the most active programs in hosting underclassmen this fall.

Iowa State

Visitors: ESPN 100 SG Matt Thomas, JC SF Dustin Hague, PG Clayton Custer, Sean O’Mara, Nick Noskowiak

Fred Hoiberg gets to hang out with his clone, Thomas. Key underclassmen on campus include Custer, a no-nonsense junior.

Kansas

Visitor: PG Frank Mason

The big question in Kansas is: Who will the Jayhawks sign at the point? Mason could very well be that guy, and this visit may end their search.

Kentucky

Visitor: ESPN 100 SG James Young

It’s an unofficial and he’s the lone player in town. Translation: He’s about to be showered with love from BBN.

Marist

Visitor: Cazmon Hayes

With an assistant on staff from North Carolina, the Red Foxes look to Charlotte for a wing player.

Miami

Visitor: SF Josh Hart

Hart is from D.C. and the entire Hurricanes staff is filled with transplants from that area. Hart has been on numerous visits and hasn’t popped yet, so we’re saying the Canes have a chance.

Michigan State

Visitor: ESPN 100 PF Jonathan Williams

ESPN’s “College GameDay” is headed to East Lansing along with J3. The Spartans are quietly in the mix for this Memphis forward.

Nebraska

Visitors: SF Nick Fuller, SF Nate Hawkins

Easy weekend for uber-tweeter Tim Miles. His two senior visitors are already committed.

Oklahoma State

Visitors: JC PF Keanau Post, JC Ben Vozzola, Jeffrey Carroll, Larry Dennis

Former D1’s and current jucos are the order of the day in Stillwater.

Providence

Visitor: SF Rodney Bullock

Easy Ed Cooley has a simple weekend on tap. One Tidewater wing to entertain.

South Florida

Visitors: ESPN 100 PF Chris Perry, PG Josh Heath, PF Drekalo Clayton, ESPN 60 PG Joel Berry, SG Kobie Eubanks

Perry’s final trip belongs to USF. To make sure he has a good time, Heath is bringing in his son for a visit to keep a watchful eye on Perry.

SMU

Visitor: ESPN 100 Tyler Roberson

SMU is going big-game hunting with elite players. If it’s going to land a headliner, it’s best chance might be with Roberson.

Stanford

Visitor: PF Nigel Hayes

The Ohio forward has been on tour. The Cardinal will try and pull him away from the Midwest.

TCU

Visitor: Ben Emelogu

Local guy makes visit to TCU, and Horned Frogs might push up on him.

Texas A&M

Visitor: ESPN 100 C Karviar Shepherd

The theme is the same: Bigs are at a premium, and Shepard can pass, score and handle his area. Aggies need to land him.

UNC-Asheville

Visitor: SG David Robertson

No bragging here, but a little birdie told me Robertson showed up on his official visit sporting a Carolina Challenge T-shirt. That’s marketing at its finest, folks.

VCU

Visitor: PG Jairus Lyles, PG JeQuan Lewis, C Antravious Simmons

Shaka Smart’s three committed players are on campus for their trip. This class looks good, and Lewis is the sleeper.

Villanova

Visitor: C Chinoso Okoboh

Like many, the Wildcats would take a big. And when they’re on campus, you have to put your best foot forward.

Wake Forest

Visitor: PG JaQuel Richmond

The local junior speedster is right in the Deacons' wheelhouse and is a tempo-changing lead guard who played for Chris Paul's AAU team.

Washington

Visitors: ESPN 100 PF Aaron Gordon, ESPN 100 SG Nigel Williams-Goss, SF Darin Johnson

This is the weekend Washington has been waiting for. Can Husky hoops capitalize on the football team’s upset over Stanford?

Washington State

Visitor: PG Ike Irogebu

If the Oak Hill point guard is going to return to the West Coast and play in the Pac-12, this is his opportunity.

West Virginia

Visitor: ESPN 100 PF Devin Williams

Williams hails from bordering Ohio, and he’s the type of blue-collar guy Bob Huggins typically favors.

Xavier

Visitor: SG Ron Patterson

The one-time Indiana signee has been on F-I-R-E during workouts. In turn, his stock has heated up.
