The second time is sweeter than the first. Torian Graham (Durham, N.C./Arlington Country Day) re-committed to coach Mark Gottfried and NC State a few months after rescinding his verbal commitment.
“They never stopped, even when I decommitted they never stopped recruiting me,” said Graham, who picked NC State over Xavier, Villanova, Arizona and Texas. “They told me they love me. I really like NC State in my heart.”
The Pack now own four ESPNU 100 recruits from the Class of 2012 and each of them is a native North Carolinian -- Graham, along with SG Rodney Purvis (Raleigh, N.C./Upper Room), SF T.J. Warren (Durham, N.C./Brewster) and PG Tyler Lewis (Statesville, N.C./Oak Hill).
Graham’s bounced around but settled down at Arlington Country Day this year. In the fall, his mother died and her passing had an enormous impact on Graham. His approach to life is more serious. His attitude is different.
“It was an experience that I didn’t want to have to go through,” Graham said. “I look at life totally different. It woke me up more than anything and got me more focused. I want to do it for my mom and I don’t want to let my mom down.”
