Gonzaga D.C. Classic recap

12/12/2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The first night of the Gonzaga D.C. Classic, a staple in the ESPN Mid-Atlantic pre-Christmas tour, yielded a strong look at a deep group of underclassmen.

Standout players

Nate Britt (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga)

2013, PG, 6-1, 165 pounds

College: North Carolina

When some kids commit, the tendency can be to take their foot off the pedal. Not Britt, he played with purpose. His explosion, athleticism and stroke were high-level and his 30-point opening night game was one of the best we’ve seen him have. Overall, he sees the floor, plays off the ball when needed and has great presence.

Josh Hart (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends)

2013, SF, 6-3, 180 pounds

Since the summer, Hart’s bulked up and his game is hedging toward the small forward position. An absolute worker on the glass, Hart takes his medicine and is good from the line. He’s one of those guys who loves to play. Mix in his perimeter stroke, stronger frame and the attention to detail in the lane and you’ve got the makings of a player who will receive high-level attention. Hart has offers from Georgetown, NC State, VCU, Penn State, Xavier, UMass and Penn. The head coach that’s most involved? Georgetown’s John Thompson.
