DeWayne Peevy, Kentucky’s associate athletics director of media relations, is a busy dude this week. The lockout and impending free agent market has impacted the number of NBA credentials issued for Saturday’s game against North Carolina, but with so many prospects on hand, it’s a must-attend event for NBA types.

“On Sunday, I had 30 combined GMs and assistant GMs,” Peevy said. With the lockout over, the NBA big wigs are pretty busy but Peevy expects at least eight general managers at the game. The place will also be packed with regular scouts and directors of scouting. If you see a guy sitting next to Ashley Judd and he’s feverishly writing, rest assured he’s not getting Judd’s digits. That guy is taking notes on a future draft choice.

ESPN’s draft guru Chad Ford tweeted there are six lottery picks and nine players in his Top 30 participating in the contest. That’s the NBA angle.

I’m here to give you the recruiting angle and the big question is where to begin?

Just the facts

  • One-fourth of last year’s McDonald’s All-American team will be on the floor
  • Fourteen total McDonald’s All-Americans (UNC 8, UK 6)
