On Monday, ESPN 100 SF Greg McClinton (Winston Salem, N.C./Hargrave) commited to Wake Forest.
“When I woke up this morning, I looked at my phone and I was getting a call from Coach [Jeff] Bzdelik,” McClinton said. “I had told my mom I was going to sleep on it. When I talked to coach, I decided I was going up there on my mom’s lunch break and commit. My mom is happy; she’s a fan of Wake.”
McClinton won multiple state championships under the tutelage of Andre Gould at Winston Salem Prep and he’s leaning toward spending his final year at Hargrave Military Academy, the prep school in Virginia that housed two Demon Deacons recruits last year.
In McClinton, the Deacons are getting an angular small forward who plays from the middle of the floor and in. The last Winston Salem native to pick Wake Forest was combo-guard C.J. Harris and before him a young guard named Chris Paul from nearby Lewisville pledged to the program. In short, the Demon Deacons have a nice tradition of faring well with the players within their area code.
