On his first visit to Michigan State, DeShone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) fell in love with the campus. On his second visit, it was pretty much the same, except it was the atmosphere and fans that made the biggest impression.
The 2014 dual-threat quarterback already holds eight offers, and it might not be long before Michigan State becomes team No. 9 and makes Kizer only the second quarterback the Spartans have offered in the 2014 class.
“They said they’re going to meet up the next couple games and come see me play and that I’m high up on their list and want me to be a Spartan,” Kizer said. “I feel great vibes from the coaches and the relationships are there.”
When Kizer first visited Michigan State it was in the summer and most of the students were not on campus. That allowed for Kizer to freely explore the university without much traffic, but he could not get a good feel for what it would be like if he were to go to Michigan State.
Saturday was the first big game Kizer has attended, and he called the atmosphere at Spartan Stadium “ridiculous.”
“It doesn’t get any better, being out there on the field talking to Coach [Mark] Dantonio and standing on the 50-yard line and taking it in,” Kizer said. “It was like no other.”
The loss did not sour Kizer's visit, either. Notre Dame is recruiting Kizer, too, but his focus was solely on the Spartans.
"My mindset was on Michigan State and win or lose I had a great time," he said. "Being on the field and feeling I could be there was definitely great. Notre Dame came out and was the best team last night out of two great teams, but I can't say they edged out (MSU) from it, though."
Boston College, Bowling Green, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Syracuse and Toledo have all offered Kizer. The 6-foot-5, 208-pound Kizer thinks Duke, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State could come soon.
Kizer does not have any favorites, but he considers Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville and Nebraska to be his biggest offers at this point. He will visit Ohio State this coming Saturday for its game against UAB.
