Defensive back Jabrill Peppers (Paramus, N.J./Paramus Catholic) is the highest-ranked prospect Michigan has landed since at least 2006. The ESPN 150 prospect made his commitment to the Wolverines on ESPNU Sunday evening, and added to a class that was already ranked No. 1 in the nation.
Peppers is not only the No. 2 overall prospect, but he's the No. 1-ranked cornerback in the nation. To find anyone remotely close to that neighborhood as far as past Michigan signees, you have to go back to the 2007 class with quarterback Ryan Mallett, who was the No. 2 ranked quarterback and No. 12 overall.
If you count defensive back Demar Dorsey from the 2010 class, then he would also be in that category at No. 12 overall. He never made it to campus, though, and so was never an impact for the Wolverines.
