2014 LB Miclisse gets a cross-country offer

By Mason Kelley

Whether meeting at camps or talking through Twitter, 2014 linebackers Greg Miclisse (Palm Bay, Fla./Bayside) and Dwight Williams (Gardena, Calif./Serra) have developed a friendship.

It is through that connection Miclisse met Washington assistant Tosh Lupoi. The 6-foot-1, 233-pound junior called the coach, who told the prospect the Huskies had already been evaluating him.

On Saturday, Washington’s staff decided it had seen enough to offer Miclisse a scholarship.

“I’m really blessed with a Washington offer,” Miclisse said. “Growing up, I’ve been watching Washington football a lot. They’ve got a great football facility and, from what I’ve heard from coach Lupoi, they’ve got a great fan base. I heard they’re building new things over there, and they’re in the Pac-12. The Pac-12 is a great conference.”

Miclisse, who also has offers from programs such as South Carolina and Tennessee, knows Washington is a long way from Florida. But he is interested in the program and thinks a change of scenery could be exciting.

“I’ve been in Florida my whole life,” Miclisse said. “Sometimes, you realize you want to explore new things in this world and just travel all around the country, see what the country has to offer you.

“I know it’s far away, but it’s just a blessing and I’m happy for it. Like I said, sometimes you have to explore new things in the world.”

When asked what he thought of the program, “I think the program is headed in the right direction,” he said. “Last year, they had a really good season, but they came up short in the bowl game. They have a great coaching staff with coach Lupoi and coach Wilcox. Coach Wilcox is a great defensive coordinator. He told me that, next year, they’re trying to get the best recruiting class in the country.”

He still has plenty of time before he announces his college choice, but he intrigued by the opportunity to play for the Huskies.

"I’m just really happy right now," he said. "I’m at a loss for words."
