MILPITAS, Calif. -- When I arrived at Milpitas High School on an overcast day, I wasn’t sure where to start my search for 2013 defensive end Vita Vea.
With a light drizzle blanketing the campus, I found shelter in the main office where I was the directed toward coach Kelly King’s classroom.
As I walked from one side of the school to the other, it was impossible to miss the 6-foot-4, 280-pound senior wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.
I didn’t know what Vea looked like. But prospects ranked in the ESPN 300 -- Vea is listed at No. 277 -- tend to stand out.
King is still working on the statistics from the Trojans’ final game in 2012, but without including the numbers from a 35-28 loss to Hollister (Calif.) San Benito, Vea finished his high-school career with 356 tackles.
His numbers back up his talent.
The four-year starter has received plenty of interest from Division I schools, but he is still working to get his academics in order before the offers roll in.
Check back later in the week for more on Vea. Now, it's time for a quick lunch at In-N-Out -- Double-Double “animal style” -- before continuing the trip at Palo Alto High School.
