Kasen Williams always said he was going to do something special.
When the 6-foot-2, 216-pound receiver was preparing to make his college announcement in 2010, he put a new twist on the select-a-hat ceremony. With a large crowd gathered at the Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline High School stadium, Williams had hats set out on a table. He waved his hand over the hats. But, right when it looked like he was going to grab one, he called over his father, Aaron, a former receiver at Washington.
The younger Williams wore a green Skyline jacket. His father walked over and unzipped it, revealing the purple Huskies jersey Aaron wore in college.
The crowd erupted in cheers.
As Williams prepares for his sophomore season at Washington, he took some time to look back on that moment and the recruiting process.
