The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior will take an official visit to Montana this weekend with teammate Marquin Russell.
LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Marquin Russell (Lakewood, Wash./Lakes) called the recruiting process “nerve-racking” Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot, 180-pound receiver stood in coach Dave Miller’s office. As Russell talked about weighing the four scholarship offers he currently holds from Idaho, Army, UNLV and Montana, the Lancers’ football coach briefly interrupted.

“Nerve-racking is not having any offers,” Miller said with a laugh.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Michael Carlson (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue) called it “probably the hardest couple of weeks in my life.”

After suffering a a fractured forearm in practice a few days before Bellevue's seventh game of the season, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker was forced to miss three games.

He was in the middle of a breakout season. He had started to catch the attention of college coaches. He was a key contributor to the defensive success of the nation’s second-ranked team in the ESPN 25 Power Rankings.

RB John Nguyen lands Montana offer

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- When asked about landing his first scholarship offer, John Nguyen started to laugh.

“It feels great,” he said. “I finally fit in with the group now.”

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound running back (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue) became the latest member of the nation’s second-ranked program to earn an offer when Montana invited him to join the Grizzlies last week.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Before he left the field Thursday night, Albert Havili said it bothered him to be waiting for a scholarship offer three games into his senior season.

But, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way) said he planned to “keep my head up. I know I can pick one up soon.”

He was quickly rewarded, landing a scholarship offer from Eastern Washington, which had coaches watching the Eagles’ 62-28 victory over Graham (Wash.) Graham-Kapowsin.

DL Freeman aims to grow for coaches

BOTHELL, Wash. -- After watching film, college coaches wanted to take a closer look at Bellevue (Wash.) nose guard Darien Freeman.

When they got a chance to see the senior in person, though, they pointed to the one thing Freeman can't control -- his height.

“My parents are short,” said Freeman, who is 5-foot-11. “I’m short. I’ve just got to deal with it.”

SEATTLE -- Bellevue’s big names made big plays.

UCLA linebacker commit Myles Jack planted Euless (Texas) Trinity quarterback Matt Hawkins on a vicious fourth-quarter sack that helped force overtime -- he also rushed for a 66-yard third-quarter touchdown.

Bishard “Budda” Baker, one of Washington’s top 2014 prospects, scored a 14-yard touchdown in overtime and flashed dynamic speed and quickness on defense and special teams.
